WEAR ONE OR FACE FINES

Supermarkets and pharmacies have started selling face masks today ... and one outlet got into trouble over its pricing policy.
A pharmacy in Zinj had its supplies confiscated by inspectors. It had tried selling the items for 'unreasonable prices' at BD35 per pack, which sold elsewhere for around BD26, the GDN's Mohammed Al A’ali reported this afternoon.
Other stores have been selling them individually and tailor and garment shops are reportedly offering stylish alternatives to the basic masks for BD1 each on social media.
An additional stock of one million face masks has been made available in the market for 180fils per piece.
The Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry said the new pricing is also applicable on more than one million masks made available yesterday.
This brings the total to more than two million face masks supplies to pharmacies and hypermarkets in the country since last night.
Tonight Bahrain enforced a mandatory rule to wear face masks from 7pm.

  • People who do not wear face masks will be fined BD5 on the spot for every offence. However, should they fail to pay then their case will be referred to the Public Prosecution.
The decision was issued tonight by Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

Interesting because my wife just bought a box of 150 and they cost 230 fils each ...I thought that there was a cap of 140 fils on surgical masks which means that this pharmacy has upped the price by 64%!
