Covid-19 Update Bahrain





A TOTAL of 110 new cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) were recorded in Bahrain yesterday, the GDN's Raji Unnikrishnan reports.

Of these, 89 were expatriate workers, 19 contracted the virus from local contact with active cases, one was from abroad, who was evacuated as part of the government’s International Covid-19 Repatriation Programme (ICRP), and one Bahraini, said the Health Ministry.

The total number of active cases has reached 1,458, of which one remains in critical condition.

Meanwhile, 145 more people recovered from Covid-19 yesterday and left the treatment and isolation facilities, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,455.

So far, Bahrain has recorded 2,869 cases, including eight deaths.

Seven Bahrainis and one Indian are among the fatalities, with the ministry saying that all of them had underlying conditions.

A total of 126,905 people have been tested for Covid-19 so far in Bahrain.

Meanwhile, the ministry has updated the contact tracing details of 140 more cases on its website dedicated to Covid-19.

These included 12 Bahrainis, 78 Indians, 34 Bangladeshis, seven Nepalis, seven Pakistanis, one Filipino and one Gambian.

Among the Bahrainis – nine men and three women (all adults) – only one (case 1674), a 58-year-old woman, is part of the ICRP who arrived from Iran on April 2, while the remaining have been infected from local positive contacts.

In addition, the list featured the first two cases of expatriate children – a nine-year-old girl (case 1647) and a 12-year-old boy (1666), both Indians.

They contracted the virus from a common positive case (1384), a 44-year-old Indian man, who was also the contact for an Indian woman, aged 37 (case 1561), and a 27-year-old Indian man, aged 27 (case 1667).

The index contact (case 1384) was in contact with two other cases – an Indian man, aged 27 (case 841), a foreign worker who tested positive whilst under quarantine in Al Hassy area, and a 31-year-old Bahraini man (case 999) who contracted the virus from a 46-year-old Bahraini man (case 481).

The latter returned from Iran on March 28 as part of the ICRP and tested positive upon arrival.

Meanwhile, one more person (case 1673), a 44-year-old Indian man, emerged to have infected from contact with the 35-year-old Nepali man (case 885), of whom 116 people contracted the virus, as reported yesterday.

The index contact was tested positive after developing symptoms.

An Indian man, aged 32 (case 1687) contracted the virus from case 884, an Indian man, aged 44, along with five others, all Indians.

The latter (case 884) was also an indirect contact of a Pakistani man, aged 36 (case 1691), who was infected by a 27-year-old Indian man (case 1043).

A 28-year-old Indian man (case 1676) was among 22 others including 17 Indians and five Bangladeshis to contract the virus from an Indian man, aged 36 (case 817).

A number of expats are workers who were tested while in quarantine at Eker, Ras Zuwayed and Al Hassy areas.

Contact tracing is ongoing for all relevant cases, added the ministry.
