VIDEO: Concern over Iftar parcels distribution

Action against improper distribution of Iftar parcels is being demanded by MPs, GDNonline's Mohammed Al A’Ali reports.

It comes after repeated incidents across the country in which expatriate workers queue up in disregard to social distancing and cause chaos as they rush to get their meals and beverages.

The practice has been banned through a decision by the Cabinet to combat the spread of Covid-19.

"This comes as police try to disperse gatherings but to no avail due to large crowds and vulnerability of possible infection," said MP Dr Masooma Abdulraheem.

"We will take matters to the next level should relevant authorities not take serious measures against those distributing the parcels because they are causing an unnecessary situation that is putting more pressure on the health system as it deals with numbers," she added.

"We are in negotiations to see the best next step if the situation is not resolved."

Parliament second vice-chairman Ali Al Zayed said the police needed to take tougher action.

"Dispersing crowds or large queues shouldn't be the case, it shouldn't be an existing situation in the first place," he said.

"Wrong attitude in the name of good is what is leading to the spread of Covid-19 at a time when the country is working to get things back to normal."

This is wrong! How we meant to control the rising numbers cases if there is crowds gatherings! Who ever donated the Iftar parcels must thinks of weight of his actions! They could use electronic ticketing, WhatsApp numbers or the least use small groups to deliver! You are spreading the virus in the name of charity!
