Follow advice plea

Recklessness and non-compliance of health regulations has led to an increase in Covid-19 cases, GDNonline's Raji Unnikrishnan reports.

Health Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Waleed Al Manea said it was everyone’s responsibility to follow precautionary guidelines introduced to limit the spread of the virus.

“Due to the non-compliance – one of the cases have been identified as passing on the virus to colleagues and families,” he said.
“Capacities of isolation and quarantine facilities increased in the country and this number is dynamic.
“Isolation beds are now 4,257 of which 3,330 are occupied and quarantine 5,489 of which 515 are occupied.
“We are ready with proactive steps to deal with all scenarios as the situation is changing.”

He was speaking at a press conference, where National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (Covid-19) monitoring committee head Lt Col Dr Manaf Al Qahtani also urged the public to change their habits during Ramadan to ensure public safety.

“We must change our customs and habits during Ramadan,” he said.
“Iftar gatherings must be limited to close family and avoid ghabgas.”
