New Bahrain measures to tackle surge in Covid-19


Bahrain has announced tough new measures to tackle the recent spike in Covid-19 cases.

The National Taskforce to Combat the Coronavirus (Covid-19) is determined to get a grip on the crisis which is seeing record numbers of infections and deaths in recent weeks.

Private gyms, recreational halls and swimming pools will be closed from 11.59pm on May 27 (Thursday) until June 10.

Attendance at government offices will be reduced to 70 per cent while remote learning will continue at schools.

All malls and commercial activities, including cinemas and restaurants, will be closed and all services will be limited to delivery only.
Salons and barber shops will be closed.

Hypermarkets, supermarkets, cold stores, groceries, fish shops, bakery, gas stations, private hospital and ATMs will however remain open.

From from 11.59pm on May 27 until June 10

• Closure of gyms, sports centres, swimming pools, entertainment centres

• No crowds at sports events

• No private events at home

• 70% work from home at public sector

• Study from home for all levels

• Closure of malls & retail shops

• Closure of restaurants/coffee shops and dine-in services. Except take-out and delivery.

• Closure of cinemas • Closure of salons, barbershops, spas & massage centres

• No events & conferences

The following businesses will remain open:
• hypermarkets & cold stores, fruit & vegetable, fish & meat stores
• bakeries
• fuel stations
• private hospitals
• banks & money exchange centres
• import/export businesses
• construction works
• factories
• administration offices (not having direct dealing with customers)
• telecommunications
• pharmacies
